Partial status epilepticus causing a transient left ventricular apical ballooning

چکیده
Transient left ventricular apical ballooning also called Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is a recently described cardiac syndrome. It often affects postmenopausal women having an acute physical or emotional stress, but it have also been described after convulsive status epilepticus. Although this association is rare and left ventricular function often recovers, it would be useful to the neurologist to be aware of the signs leading to this diagnosis, to improve the cardiac later care. Here we report a patient with partial status epilepticus in whom the diagnosis of transient left ventricular apical ballooning was made. We describe the diagnostic criteria and the potential complications that should be monitored.

Biventricular Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy Associated with Epilepsy
We describe a case of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy in an elderly woman after status epilepticus. In an emergency echocardiography, not only left ventricular apical ballooning but also right ventricular apical hypokinesia was observed. After a medical management, the patient's condition was improved and a follow-up echocardiography showed substantial recovery of left and right ventricular apical bal...
متن کاملCardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Diagnosis of Anterolateral Left Ventricular Ballooning, a Variant of Classic Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy
Transient left ventricular apical ballooning syndrome is characterized by transient akinesis of the left ventricular apex with basal wall hyperkinesis; this is also known as Takotsubo cardiomyopathy. There are three distinct contractile LV patterns described in the literature: apical, midventricular, and basal ballooning. The apical ballooning pattern is the most frequent pattern. We describe t...
متن کاملRecurrent, severe, and rapidly reversible apical ballooning syndrome in status asthmaticus.
Apical ballooning syndrome, or Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy, is a peculiar form of transient left-ventricular dysfunction originally described as triggered by emotional stress. Subsequent reports indicated that physical stressors can also induce this clinical syndrome. We describe for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, a case of recurrent, severe, and quickly reversible apical balloonin...
متن کامل24 Hour ST Segment Analysis in Transient Left Ventricular Apical Ballooning
OBJECTIVE The etiologic basis of transient left ventricular apical ballooning, a novel cardiac syndrome, is not clear. Among the proposed pathomechanisms is coronary vasospasm. Long-term ST segment analysis may detect vasospastic episodes but has not been reported. METHODS 30 consecutive patients with transient left ventricular apical ballooning, left ventricular dysfunction and normal or nea...
متن کاملransient Midventricular Ballooning Syndrome
We describe a new variant of transient left ventricular (LV) ballooning in North American Caucasian patients in which only the midventricle is affected. The patients described in this case series initially presented with emotional or physical stress and had similarities to transient apical ballooning syndrome; however, this variant is unique in that the transient ballooning involves the midvent...
